EMDR Consultation

EMDR 3rd EditionBill Brislin, LMHC, NCC
EMDRIA Certified Therapist
EMDRIA Approved Consultant

EMDR consultation is a collaborative process of integration and growth. The consultant advises the consultee regarding the effective utilization of EMDR therapy. It differs from supervision in that the consultee maintains primary responsibility for the decisions involving treatment of their clients.

My style is both supportive and challenging. My goal is to help consultees feel comfortable to explore their own questions, competencies, and difficulties. Ultimately, I desire to impart excitement for EMDR and help hone necessary skills to use this treasure effectively.

Consultation is provided to fulfill the requirements of basic training, for those seeking to become EMDR Certified Therapists, or for EMDR Therapists who wish to deepen their skills.

For those completing Part I or II of EMDR Basic Training.

The EMDR International Association, which governs the standards for approved EMDR training requires trainees to compile 10 hours of consultation. Most therapists do 4-5 hours following Part 1 and 4-6 hours following Part 2, but there is some wiggle room regarding the timing.

As a member of the Connect EMDR training team, I offer basic consultation for our trainees. Some other training organizations may also permit me to offer basic consultation. Check with your training provider.

  • 10 hour group package is included in Connect’s basic training package. Log into your basic training course to register. .
  • Individual consultation is offered at $140/hr.
  • Dyad consultation is offered at $70/hr.

Please contact me for more information.

This EMDR consultation group via Zoom is for EMDR Therapists who have completed EMDR basic training and wish to work towards becoming an EMDR Certified Therapist.

I generally offer a 10-hour certification group twice per year. Go to ConnectEMDR to see if registration is currently open for a group.

Sessions will include didactic elements, discussion, and formal case presentations. The purpose of the group is to assist participants in their full engagement with the AIP model of case conceptualization and treatment to attain a level of mastery as EMDR Therapists in a variety of clinical contexts. Group members are encouraged to share video examples of their work.

Becoming an EMDRIA certified therapist requires a minimum of 20-hours of consultation beyond basic training. 10 of those hours can be acquired in a group setting. Visit EMDRIA.org to learn more about becoming an EMDR Certified Therapist.

Meetings are held via Zoom.

Contact me if you have questions.

What?
A master class of EMDR Therapists seeking to increase their skills and knowledge in working with complex trauma and dissociation in a mutually supportive and challenging environment. This facilitated process will begin as a book study group with EMDR and Dissociation: The Progressive Approach by Anabel Gonzalez and Dolores Mosquera as the text. We will seek to integrate advanced AIP case conceptualization with attachment theory and the theory of structural dissociation.

Participants will receive the benefit of two consultants, Connect EMDR’s Bill Brislin and Reg Morrow Robinson, a strengthening of their peer network of therapists working with complex cases, didactic and experiential exercises at each meeting with an opportunity to practice techniques, and an opportunity to integrate theory and methodology into current and future cases. Bill and Reg have facilitated this group since 2015 with each round enhancing the next. Both Reg and Bill have been delivering EMDR therapy virtually to complex clients and offering training virtually utilizing a HIPAA secure platform. They are both EMDR basic trainers and R-TEP/G-TEP trainers.

Requirements for Participation
This is a closed group for a minimum of six to a maximum of ten EMDR Therapists, plus two facilitators. The group members will have completed basic EMDR training, be EMDRIA Certified Therapists, and currently be treating clients. Prior training in dissociation is not required. Members are committed to attending ten meetings, studying required text, using an online reading blog, and presenting cases. Presenting cases to each other greatly deepens learning through broad awareness of the complexity and diversity of complex cases, as well as the healing which occurs.

I offer individual consultation to complete the requirements of basic EMDR training, for those working towards EMDRIA certification or to become an EMDRIA Approved Consultant. Others seek occasional or regular general case consultation or to increase specific skills/knowledge.

Many clinicians enjoy the dynamics of dyad consultation (2 consultees + 1 consultation) for basic, certification, or CIT work. This is particularly easy if you have a colleague you enjoy patterning with as you can challenge, support, and inspire each other.
Fees

  • Individual Consultation @ $140/hr.
  • Dyad Consultation @ $70/hr. per person

About me . . .
Trained in EMDR in 2009, this therapeutic methodology transformed me professionally and personally. Immediately, it was evident that clients were making rapid progress. As an EMDR therapist, I noticed that core issues emerge early in therapy and are effectively treated. Clients who were “stuck” have experienced “breakthroughs.” Folks who have experienced trauma, recent or long ago, find soothing relief. Once I became an EMDR therapist, I have never looked back; experiencing a hunger to develop my skills and knowledge. This has led me to attend numerous conferences and advanced trainings, particularly increasing my skills in the areas of complex trauma and dissociation.

Having provided supervision to counseling interns since 1997, I enjoy participating in the learning progression with new and experienced therapists. My enthusiasm and positive experience with EMDR therapy led me to become an EMDRIA approved consultant and an EMDR trainer.
